Balls Tier List

Pegfinity loves showing new balls: beach balls, basketballs, watermelons that spray juice, disco balls, shatter and zap variants, maybe lasers riding a sphere. Steam reviewers noticed the trap. Once the loot table is fat, great balls appear rarely and weak balls appear constantly. This list ranks ball-related upgrades by whether they help Hypemeter or just add variety.

Pair it with the upgrade tier list and gadgets because cannons and gumballs are ball factories too.

S-tier ball ideas

Keeping a simple strong default queue. The grey starter ball that hits a lot of pegs is not glamorous. If it prints, protect it. Do not open five new types the moment they appear.

Watermelon, once the board is dense. Juice droplets are extra hits. On an empty board they are a mess. On a stuffed board they are a sprinkler for Hypemeter.

Extra ball from a cannon or chicken, after density. More objects in a rich field. See special pegs for chicken gating.

A-tier

Beach ball. Extra bounce. Can feed portals and chickens in demo footage, including a lucky orange ball story. Not a first purchase. Fine as a spice node.

Zap or shatter balls. They act like mini gadgets. Buy when pegs exist to zap.

Portal-saved balls. Not a ball type, but a way of keeping a good ball in play. That is why portal is graded next door. A saved watermelon beats a new basketball.

B-tier

Faster balls. Demo players skipped them and they were right. Speed can skip pegs on a short board. Pegfinity is already wide and shallow; racing through it is not a combo plan.

Disco and other spectacle balls. They are the trailer. Buy them when you are playing for screenshots. The review is honest that spectacle is the product — just do not spend your mid-game budget on it.

C-tier

Basketball and other low-hit extras unlocked early. Launch reviews called later ball upgrades a way to make yourself weaker because great balls show up less. If a type hits fewer pegs than your default, it is a tax.

Gumball-machine surprise balls as an opener. Random objects before you have a scoring engine.

Any node that only adds chance for a rare ball without adding density. Lotteries are late-game.

How to unlock without bricking

  1. Build pegs and Hypemeter first.
  2. Unlock one new type.
  3. Play two runs. If cash went down, skip the rest of that branch.
  4. Unlock watermelon-style splash balls after fireworks or cactus exist.
  5. Leave the zoo for after progression is basically done.

Chicken plus beach ball plus portal can still create funny legendary moments. That is luck. Do not plan a completion around luck. Plan around a queue you understand, then let the circus happen on top.

If you only remember one sentence: extra balls are not extra income until extra pegs exist. The upgrade order planner follows that sentence. Protect the queue that already prints, then let the circus in. A rare watermelon on a stuffed board is a reward. A rare watermelon on an empty board is a screenshot of a miss.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask after the Steam launch.

Should I unlock every ball type?

No. Unlock one, test income, then stop if cash dropped. Dilution is a real launch complaint.

Are watermelons good?

Yes on a dense board because juice adds hits. No as an early node. Pair with special pegs.

Do extra balls help combos?

They help Hypemeter only if they keep colliding. Extra balls that die in a corner hurt combos.

Is the gumball machine a ball upgrade?

It is a gadget that spits objects. Grade it on the gadget tier list, and skip it as an opener.
