How to Use Pegfinity Gadgets

Portals, lasers, gumballs, and bumpers only pay when a peg feeds them.

Gadgets and Synergies

Gadgets are the toys that cheat physics. The Steam page lists lasers, portals, a gumball machine, and a pinball bumper. Demo players added cannons, moving portals that save balls, and bumpers that score on impact after the 1.4 juice patch. None of these are free wins. A portal with nothing to recatch is a moving hole. A laser with no pegs to chain is a light show. This page is how to use gadgets so they feed Hypemeter combos instead of eating your cash.

Unlock order still starts with How to Play and special pegs. Rankings for these toys sit on the gadget tier list. Concrete pairings sit on synergy recipes.

Portals

A ball portal is a moving catch that returns a ball toward the launcher or chamber instead of letting it die in a basket. In Next Fest footage the portal does not always span the full width, so balls still leak around the edges. Buy extra width only after the portal has already proven it recatches something valuable. The famous loop is cactus plus portal: spines keep hitting, the portal keeps a ball in play, UFO may beam the same neighbourhood, and the round starts to look idle. That is a synergy, not a cheat menu. You still paid tree nodes for every piece. If you want to finish the game fairly, use the loop to buy remaining nodes faster, then stop. If you want to AFK, know that playtesters already asked for timeouts on UFO and laser.

Lasers

Lasers chain. Patch 1.4 made that chain juicier. A laser next to UFO is the other idle screenshot: beams and saucers clear pegs while you watch. Lasers want density. Buy pegs first. A laser across three pegs is a sparkler. A laser across a stuffed board is a farm. Same rule as fireworks on the special pegs page.

Pinball bumper and cannon

The pinball gadget scores on hit and shoves the ball. Patch 1.4 made the impact stronger. Bumpers are feeders: they keep a ball in the scoring zone so Hypemeter does not drop. Cannons fire an extra ball, which is only good if that ball has pegs to hit and does not dilute a perfect queue. Extra-ball gadgets are the centre of a Steam thread titled as a question: are extra balls, gumball machine, and portal actually bad to take? The honest answer is “without a feeder, often yes.” With cactus, firework, or UFO, they become the engine. The gadget tier list grades them in both states.

Gumball machine

Gumball is a chaos dispenser. It can spit extra objects into a board that already works, or it can clutter a board that does not. Buy it after you have a scoring engine, not as the engine. If your runs get noisier but poorer, the machine is eating collisions. Skip it on a completion path; the progression walkthrough does not require it.

How to play gadgets without staring at the meter

Once a loop exists, your launches are fuel, not aim tests. Hit the activator peg, then keep the queue from emptying. The controls guide is about charging without watching the widget. Gadgets are why that advice works. If you still have to snipe every shot, you do not own a gadget yet — you own a decoration. Sell that plan, buy Cactus or UFO, and try again.

When to skip a gadget

Skip a gadget when:

  • It costs more than the next special peg.
  • You have no feeder peg.
  • It adds balls that replace a queue you like.
  • The tooltip is “more baskets” in disguise.

Baskets are catchers, not gadgets that cheat physics, but they sit in the same shop brain. Steam reviews call bin upgrades a waste. Believe them until your board overflows with balls you cannot catch. Overflow is a late problem. Early Pegfinity dies from empty boards, not from missed catches.

When a loop feels too strong, that is the game’s comedy working as designed. Pegfinity is a short chaotic incremental, not a balanced PvP shooter. Use the comedy to finish the tree, then read the review if you are deciding whether the last hour is worth another sitting.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask after the Steam launch.

Is the cactus plus portal loop intended?

It is an interaction of shipped nodes, and playtesters already reported idle UFO and laser loops. Use it to speed progression, and expect possible timeouts in patches.

Are extra balls and the gumball machine bad?

They are bad without feeders and good with Cactus, UFO, or dense pegs. Grade them on the gadget tier list.

Should I buy portal or Hypemeter first?

Hypemeter first if you can only afford one. A portal without combos and feeders is a moving hole. See Hypemeter combos.

Do gadgets work in the demo?

Yes. Portal, laser, pinball, and cactus loops were all visible in Next Fest footage. The full game adds more of the same idea.
