Pegs Tier List

Pegs are the board. Gadgets and balls only matter because pegs exist to hit. This list ranks special and modified pegs for the Steam release. How to unlock them is on special pegs. Overall spend order is on the upgrade tier list.

S-tier pegs

Cactus. Spines are extra collisions. Portal food. Early. If you buy one special, buy this.

UFO. Beams a neighbourhood. Needs density, then it can look like the game is playing itself. Pair notes in synergies.

Gold / high-value basics once peg value is bought. Not flashy. They are the floor. Skipping value to rush a clown is how runs stay poor.

A-tier pegs

Frog. Licks nearby pegs. Patch 1.4 aimed the tongue at better scores. A density partner more than a loop captain.

Firework. Cluster pop. Starts chains on crowded boards.

Thermometer. Lava bubbles. Same density rule as firework, slower fantasy, still A if the field is full.

Bumper peg. Pays more per hit. Honest score peg. Good when you already collide a lot.

Toxic. Firework follow-up. Area tax on a busy board.

B-tier pegs

Chicken. Spawns balls, not licks. Helps Hypemeter, risks queue dilution. Read balls before you hatch on sight.

Electric and explosive basics. Fine multipliers. Buy after the special that creates extra hits, or they multiply silence.

Legendary spawn chance. A lottery ticket. Buy when cash is cheap.

C-tier and arguments

Bouncy pegs. They extend travel and can stall. A Steam thread exists just to hate them. Try before investing. If a ball orbits nothing, you bought stall, not combo.

Mirrors, clowns, atomic bomb. Run-stealers on the store page. They can spike a screenshot and also eat a run. Fun after the tree is yours. Unreliable as a plan.

Graveyard. Late peg. Launch week showed 90 million versus a planned 9 million. Steam 1.2.1 fixed that ten-times cost. Rank it as a late special, not a bug. Details: patch notes.

How to play the list

Unlock along the chain the tree gives you. You cannot place an S-tier peg by hand. You buy the chance, reroll boards, and snipe the sprite when it appears. If a board has no specials, cash out. Random layouts are part of the design; stubbornly re-aiming a dead field is not. Controls still matter for the snipe. Gadgets matter for keeping the peg awake.

If two pegs unlock at once, prefer the one that fires extra hits over the one that only changes bounce feel. That single rule recreates most of this list.

Cactus stays the completion pick because spines are extra collisions you do not have to aim. UFO stays the density pick because a beam over three pegs is a sparkler and a beam over thirty pegs is a farm. Frog, firework, and thermometer sit in the middle: they want a crowded field first. Bouncy pegs stay an argument you can test in one run and then skip. Graveyard is a late buy after 1.2.1, not a farm wall. How to unlock the chain is still on special pegs. This ranking only tells you which sprite is worth the cash when the node finally appears.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask after the Steam launch.

Is Cactus always S-tier?

For a first completion, yes. It is the cheapest extra-hit peg and it feeds portals. Comedy pegs can wait.

Why is UFO not always S-tier?

On a sparse board it beams nothing. Buy density first, then UFO. See special pegs.

Should I skip bouncy pegs?

Skip them on a speed path. Test them later. Several players dislike the stall.

Where is Graveyard ranked?

Late special after 1.2.1 fixed the ten-times price. See patch notes.
