How to Get Pegfinity Special Pegs
Unlock the pegs that shoot, beam, lick, hatch, and explode so the board plays itself.
Special pegs are why Pegfinity is not just Plinko with a shop. A normal peg pays when you hit it. A special peg starts a second action: spines, beams, tongues, lava, fireworks, toxic pops, chickens that spawn extra balls. The Steam page promises exploding, electric, and gold pegs plus chickens, UFOs, mirrors, clowns, and an atomic bomb. You do not find these as world drops. You buy the node that unlocks the chance, then hope the random board spawns one you can wake.
This page is the how-to-get guide. Rankings live on the peg tier list. Spend order lives on the upgrade order planner. Gadgets that combo with these pegs live in how to use gadgets.
How unlocks work
The tree is a chain of “unlock X, which reveals Y.” Demo gameplay shows Cactus unlocking a cluster of follow-ups: UFO chance, Frog, Firework, Thermometer. Frog later unlocks Chicken. Firework unlocks Toxic. You cannot hunt a Chicken peg in the first ten minutes because the node is gated. That is why this wiki talks about how to get a peg instead of where to find it on a map. There is no map. There is a node, then a random spawn, then a hit.
When a special peg appears, treat it as a snipe target for that run. Demo players noted cactus can vanish after you use it for the round. Do not assume it stays parked forever. Hit it, enjoy the spines, and buy more spawn chance if you want to see it again.
Cactus
Cactus is the early star. It shoots spines that hit nearby pegs, which is extra collisions for free. Combined with a portal it becomes the infinite-feed trick people clipped during Next Fest: spines keep striking, the portal keeps returning a ball, Hypemeter stays hot. You still have to launch at least once to start the mess. After that, aiming matters less. Unlock Cactus as soon as peg value is not starving. Details on the loop sit in gadgets and synergies.
UFO
UFO beams nearby pegs. In the demo it could keep working with almost no extra launches, which some playtesters called an AFK loop — especially next to lasers. Fragment Ventures may patch timeouts; play the interaction as a strong mid-game engine, not a guaranteed idle farm. UFO is expensive compared with Cactus. Buy it when you already have density, or it will beam an empty neighbourhood.
Frog and Chicken
Frog licks nearby pegs. A later demo patch even aimed the tongue toward better scores. Frog is a density tool with personality. Chicken, unlocked after Frog in the demo chain, spawns extra balls rather than extra licks. Chicken plus beach ball was one recorded way to stumble into rarer orange balls through a portal. That is luck, not a craft recipe, but it shows why chicken is a ball factory instead of a peg factory. If your queue is already bloated with weak balls, delay Chicken. If you need more objects on screen to feed Hypemeter, buy it. See the ball tier list before you hatch everything.
Thermometer, Firework, Toxic
Thermometer heats lava bubbles. Firework pops a cluster. Toxic is the Firework follow-up. These are area tools. They shine on dense boards and look silly on sparse ones. Buy extra pegs first. A firework in a crowded field is a chain starter; a firework in a desert is a loud nothing. Thermometer plus other heat or splash toys is a mid-game spectacle more than an early economy.
Bouncy, bumper, graveyard, and the rest
Bouncy pegs are divisive. At least one Steam thread is literally “I hate Bouncy Pegs.” They extend travel time, which can help Hypemeter or stall a ball in a useless orbit. Try one run with them before investing in the branch. Bumper pegs pay more per hit, which is a clean score node if you already collide a lot. Graveyard / gravestone is a late peg with a suspected extra zero on the price — confirm on known issues before farming 90 million. Mirrors, clowns, and the atomic bomb are billed as run-stealers: they can spike a board or eat the run. Treat them as chaos toys, not as the plan for a first completion.
How to play once specials exist
Your job shifts from hitting every peg to waking the right one. A top-row shot that clips cactus or UFO is worth more than a bottom-row spray. The controls guide covers that height. Then leave the machine running. If nothing special spawned, the run is a cash dump — end it and reroll the random board. Completing the tree is faster when you respect rerolls.
Gold, electric, and explosive basics still matter. They are the floor under the circus. Never skip peg value just because a UFO exists. Specials multiply a board that already pays; they do not replace it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players ask after the Steam launch.
How do I get the Cactus peg?
Buy the Cactus node on the tree, then hit the cactus when a random board spawns one. It is an early special and a feeder for portal gadgets.
How do I get the UFO or Chicken?
They sit behind earlier specials in the demo-style chain: Cactus cluster for UFO, Frog for Chicken. You unlock a chance, you do not place the peg by hand.
Are bouncy pegs good?
Sometimes. They can stall or extend combos. Several players dislike them. Rank them on the peg tier list after one test run.
Why can I not find a peg on the board?
Boards are random. If the node is bought and the peg is missing, finish the run and reroll. There is no overworld location.
